The police in Nasarawa State have arrested two suspects, Yusuf Musa, 23, and Victor Zamani, 32, in connection with the gruesome murder of a 50-year-old man, identified as Jude Thaddeus, popularly known as Musa, whose decomposed remains were recovered from a dry well within his residence at Aku Village, Base 5, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. According to a statement from the command, on November 3, one Jennifer Alain, aged 46, of Mpape, Abuja, reported at Aso Pada Division that her elder brother, Jude Thaddeus, had been unreachable. She explained that despite several attempts to contact him through his telephone number, an unidentified person consistently answered the calls, raising concerns about his whereabouts. Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives attached to the Division immediately commenced an investigation, which led to the arrest of Yusuf Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was allegedly engaged by the deceased about three months earlier to look after his domestic animals and had subsequently been introduced to neighbours and other members of the community. Further findings established that the deceased had reportedly been missing since 22nd October 2026, while the suspect allegedly took possession of his mobile phone and continued to deceive callers by claiming that his supposed father had travelled to England. Investigations further revealed that the suspect had allegedly been disposing of the deceased's personal belongings, domestic animals and other properties under suspicious circumstances. The suspect also reportedly confessed to having sold some heavy metals and industrial engines belonging to the deceased for the sum of N3,400,000. During interrogation, Yusuf Musa allegedly confessed to his involvement in the murder and disclosed that the victim's body had been dumped in a dry well within his residence. Acting on the information provided, a team of detectives, in collaboration with environmental services personnel, visited the scene, where the decomposed remains of the victim were successfully exhumed from the dry well. Preliminary findings indicated that the victim was allegedly killed inside his residence, after which his body was dumped in the well and set ablaze. The suspects reportedly used several blocks to seal and conceal the well in an apparent attempt to cover up the crime and evade detection. The decomposed remains were subsequently evacuated to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where a medical doctor examined and certified the victim dead. The police stated that in the course of the investigation, another suspect and two receivers of the stolen items were identified and arrested in connection with the alleged crime. The investigation has further established the involvement of a third suspect, who is currently at large. Efforts have been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspect and bring all persons connected with the crime to justice. The state Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for a comprehensive investigation and diligent prosecution of all persons found culpable.
