Government inherited GH¢111bn debt burden but continues infrastructure projects – Lands Minister

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, says the government inherited a debt burden of about GH¢111 billion, placing significant pressure on public finances. He said despite the debt obligations and the billions of cedis being committed to debt servicing, the government had continued to undertake major infrastructure projects across the country. Speaking during an engagement with chiefs of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area, Mr Buah said the government had paid more than GH¢2 billion in debt obligations in 2025 and 2026. He added that the government is expected to pay more than GH¢10 billion next year, describing the repayment schedule as an obligation that cannot be avoided.
