New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has held consultations with the leadership of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) on policy proposals to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system. The discussions covered the proposed establishment of a dedicated regulatory council for medical laboratory science, financial clearance for the recruitment of health professionals, local production of laboratory reagents, stronger disease surveillance systems and strategic partnerships with the private sector. Dr Bawumia said the engagement provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on challenges facing the health sector and explore practical measures to improve healthcare delivery. Medical laboratory services play a central role in disease diagnosis, treatment decisions and the detection of public health threats. Improving staffing, access to laboratory supplies and professional regulation could therefore affect the quality and reliability of services across the country.
