The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) is investigating an explosion during a border patrol operation in the Hamile Sector of the Upper West Region that killed one of its officers and a tricycle rider. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, November 3, 2026, along an unapproved route in the border area, according to a statement issued by the Service. The GIS said a team of four officers on patrol responded to an unusual sound and intercepted a man transporting a load on a tricycle. The rider reportedly attempted to flee as the officers approached to inspect the contents of the load. “In the process of trying to stop him, the load exploded, resulting in the death of the tricycle rider and injuries to two officers,” the statement said.
